Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. These filters remove unwanted polarized light that reflects from surfaces such as water or glass. The polarizer also visibly saturates colors for striking effects, especially with transparency film. The range of effects is easy to preview in your camera's viewfinder; simply compose the picture and rotate the filter.
Customer Review: Worth paying more?
Yes. I'm an enthusiastic hobbyist - probably more comfortable with the science than the art of photography. I've used polarizers for about 20 years but must admit usage tailed off after the switch to digital from working with mostly slide film. I replaced a Hoya polariser that had received a bit of a ding and was hard to rotate. The Nikon replacement is considerably thinner and easier to work with. It's now something I take off my 50mm 1:1.4D when I come indoors as opposed to something I put on sometimes when I'm outdoors.
Customer Review: Very happy with this.
I've been using polarizers for 30 years; This is a very good one. It is thin enough for my Pentax 16mm wide angle lens, but deep enough for my lens cap to hook on the outer threads.
