No Warm-Up / Low Energy Usage
Thanks to the high luminance white LED light source, the unit is ready to scan whenever you are, with zero warm-up time. Plus, the advanced LED light source quickly switches to standby mode after scanning, saving energy.
High-Quality Imaging
The CCD scanning element produces high-quality 4800-dpi scans, and is the same CCD technology found in digital cameras.
Push-Button Simplicity
Seven EZ Buttons let you do what you want with your original. So, scan it in color or B&W. Scan and save it, or copy it (sending a scanned image to your printer). Create a PDF of a multi-page original, customize your own settings, or for the ultimate in simplicity, just press the "Scan" button and let the CS5600F take care of everything. Whichever button you press, the process is simple.
Smart Scanning
The new Auto Scan feature makes scanning anything even easier than before. It actually detects the type of original you're scanning - whether it's a photo, business card, personal notebook or form - then automatically scans, processes and saves the image in the appropriate format. All at the press of just one button.

Just One Wire
To reduce the number of wires in your work area, one simple cable provides power and a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection.
Customer Review: Excellent choice, excellent price
I installed this scanner on a Vista PC with no effort. It scans photos well and also does a great job with slides and 35mm film negatives. Most scanners don't do well with film negatives and often these are in better shape than old photos. The film negatives scanned in as good as or better than photos.
Customer Review: Does a good job
I have had this scanner for a few months now; replaced an hp scanner that died. The hp was actually much simpler to use with it's opening dialogue box to do what you want -- preview, then crop, etc., or scan as is. The Canon scanner is simple if you do not want to crop or adjust anything. Just push a button and it automatically determines the size of the item to be scanned and does it. But if you want to preview the scan first and crop the picture before you actually scan it, you have to go through a few dialogue boxes to get there -- and then you have to save the scanned picture before you can print it. If you don't need to preview and crop, etc., first, the one-button scanning can be done directly to the printer. As far as the quality of the scan, the Canon does a great job, so I have no problems recommending it. It just takes a little more time if you know you don't want to scan the whole page of something, since you'll have to go through a few dialogue boxes to get what you want. I have tried scanning only one 35mm slide, but without much success.
